Organisation Background

The Y is a community not-for-profit and the oldest youth organisation in the world with a history dating back to 1844.  The Y Ballarat is one of the largest Early Years Management providers in Victoria - operating as Y Kinders with close to 100 locations, 4,500 weekly participants and over 700 staff. We also provide further education and engagement services through our Outside School Hours Care (OSHC), Swimming Lessons and Youth and Community programs.

We are committed in delivering upon our belief statement “We believe in the power of inspired young people” by engaging and supporting young people in our communities through our program and service streams.

The Y Ballarat has been on an extraordinary journey over the past 5 years that includes a merge with the Grampians YMCA association, supporting communities through the impact of the 2019/20 bushfires in Eastern Victoria, navigating the COVID-19 pandemic and finally welcoming an additional metropolitan 35 kindergarten services to our portfolio.

We have an exciting future ahead of us, guided by our strategic plan “Towards Vision 2030” and will be commencing the implementation of the “Best Start, Best Life” Victorian Kindergarten reform that will see us grow by an additional third by 2036. We continue to expand our services and programs in our Youth and Education services having established education re-engagement programs including JumpStart and ReCranked In Schools.
